Out with the old and in with the old. This videocast got picked up all over the place and all of you had the same reaction as I did: “This is pretty freakin’ cool.” Can you imagine watching artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Fab 5 Freddy and Futura 2000 partying in this space? You know that was one good party.

You can go see the 151 Wooster Project for yourselves — it’s by appointment only — but the space is now open to the public through the middle of February.

I wasn’t shocked that this video made it into our top five. We got lots of email asking for additional information about how to find an apartment in New York. I made reference in a previous blog post about an article that was published in TimeOut NY with a checklist of three behaviors New Yorkers should engage in when it comes to NYC real estate. Those were:

-Seriously consider renting an apartment whose bathtub is in the kitchen

-Be forced to live with your ex after the breakup because neither of you can afford to move out

-Peruse the local real-estate ads [when you’re out of town] just to see what kind of mansion your NYC rent could get you in that podunk town.

My response to this? A big fat “no!” Sure, the the brokers can get you down but you must remain calm under pressure. If you’re in a real time crunch, pay a little money to store your stuff, and crash at a friend’s place until you can find a home that you feel good about. It may take some time, but it will happen.

I look at this video and think, where oh where are those happy sunny days? Sundresses, open-toe shoes and bagels. Life was so good back in September.

Anyway, I’m not surprised that this video got voted in as our number four. I spent days researching the area and become obsessed with the history of both The Dakota and The Ansonia.

On the day we filmed, we tried to get inside of the basement of the Ansonia—where the parties happened—but the current managers of the building weren’t having any of that business. They offered to let us film the lobby, but I wasn’t so interested in that. My head was in that basement. It still is.
